About the role

Seedling gives small and mid-sized teams the technology and expertise they need to understand and reduce their carbon emissions. We provide intuitive carbon accounting software, plus one-to-one support from an expert, to businesses across all sectors – professional services, fashion, healthcare, technology – you name it!

We’re looking for a Carbon Impact Specialist to join the growing Seedling team. As an outsourced sustainability expert, you’ll be the key point of contact for our clients, helping them to manage emissions and meet their business objectives. You’ll be responsible for client satisfaction, success and retention. In addition, as a startup, every role is varied, and you’ll use insights from your core client-focused role to get involved in every other area of the business (e.g product development, marketing).

Responsibilities

Core role: Owning the Client Journey (Onboarding to Carbon Output)

- Onboarding: understand the client’s objectives/concerns, upskilling on the Seedling platform & process.

- Footprinting: provide guidance on data gathering to manage limitations and maximise accuracy; ensure compliance with the GHG Protocol (spotting errors, noting key assumptions/exclusions).

- Reduction advice: support the client’s decarbonisation with bespoke reduction advice based on footprint review & hotspot analysis; advise on target setting (SBTi-aligned near term, long term, absolute versus intensity based etc).

- Reporting: ensure effective, credible use of key reports and comms tools.

Over time, you’ll develop into our Head of Carbon Impact, overseeing all clients and managing the client delivery team.

Wider responsibilities: Driving Seedling’s Growth via Clients

- Actively collect platform feedback and use insights to improve the client experience and turn clients into product champions.

- Identifying client-based marketing opportunities (e.g. joint social posts to showcase great client initiatives).

- Proactively gathering client testimonials and case studies; feeding these into the marketing engine.

- Encouraging clients to refer us to other businesses (e.g. their suppliers), including via our referral scheme.

Example measured objectives (KPIs)

- Certification rates – % of clients completing full Seedling process.

- Satisfaction – as measured by testimonials / feedback.

- Retention – % of clients returning to measure emissions year-on-year.

- Referrals – # of new opportunities from Seedling’s client base.

Skills / experience

Essential:

- Flawless spoken and written English.

- Consistently strong academic performance, including a 2:1 or above.

- Technical knowledge of carbon accounting (GHG Protocol, SBTi-aligned Net Zero target setting). At least 1 year experience delivering carbon footprinting services.

- Exceptional ability to communicate and foster positive business relationships. High EQ. A willingness to listen and build a genuine understanding of others.

- Potential to adopt a managerial role as we scale and build out the delivery team further.

Desirable:

- Experience working within startups / small teams.

- Customer success experience, ideally working for a B2B SaaS company or similar.

Are you a fit?

You’ll thrive in this role if:

- You’re conscientious, self-motivated, hold yourself to high standards.

- You love to think strategically. You have an entrepreneurial mindset.

- You’re after ownership, autonomy, and challenge.

- You want to get stuck in across different areas of a startup and understand the full picture, not just be a cog in the wheel.

- You want to join a young, high-energy, sociable team having fun building something exceptional.

- You’re happy to be in the office (central Bath) ~3 days per week.

- You’re passionate about tackling climate change.

This role won’t suit you if (important):

- You don’t enjoy speaking to people. You will be speaking with clients every day.

- Delivering an exceptional customer experience isn’t something you can get excited about.

- You’re not comfortable with data, especially the technical side of carbon accounting.

- You prefer to follow pre-set instructions as a part of a strictly defined role / team structure.
