Commercial Legal Counsel

Do you enjoy being close to the business, navigating complex commercial contracts and working across borders?

As Commercial Legal Counsel, you will work on a broad range of commercial and contractual matters across FincoEnergies. From drafting and negotiating contracts to advising on legal risks, claims and disputes: you’ll be closely involved in our day-to-day business and work with colleagues across different parts of the organisation.

You’ll have the opportunity to further develop our commercial legal framework, improve the way we work and make legal guidance practical and accessible for the business. The role combines hands-on commercial legal work with the opportunity to contribute to broader legal and corporate matters.

You report to the Head of Legal & Corporate Affairs, your position is based in Rotterdam and you work closely with colleagues across the organisation.

Your responsibilities as a Commercial Legal Counsel:

• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating national and international commercial contracts related to;

  • the purchase, sale, supply, trading and storage of fuel products across various markets, transport modes and distribution channels;

  • the purchase, sale and trading of related environmental credits, certificates and compliance instruments (including ERE tickets, FUEM pooling surpluses and carbon emission reduction credits);

• Contributing to the development of commercial legal framework (including policies and procedures across the business);

• Identifying and assess legal risks associated with commercial transactions and finding practical solutions;

• Providing pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice to management and internal stakeholders on topics such as liability, warranties, competition law and general terms and conditions;

• Developing and implementing strategies to mitigate legal risks and protect the interest of the company;

• Increasing awareness and knowledge throughout the company;

• Handling claim management.

As our new Commercial Legal Counsel you bring:

• Relevant degree in Law;

• 4 to 7 years of post-qualification work experience with focus on commercial contracts;

• Experience within the (renewable) energy sector is preferred.

• Proactive, practical and independent way of working;

• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills;

• Proficient in the English and Dutch language, written and spoken;

• Strong analytical capabilities and a commercial mindset;

• Experience with M&A or other corporate legal matters is a plus.
