Role Description

The Forestry Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Zambia. This role is responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising forestry operations for carbon projects, including forest inventories, planting, thinning, and harvesting activities in line with best practices and project standards.

The Forestry Manager will oversee field teams, coordinate with local communities and partners, and ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements. Daily tasks include monitoring forest health, managing timber and non-timber resources, maintaining accurate records and maps, and contributing to carbon project design and reporting. The role also involves developing operational plans, providing technical guidance to staff, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align forestry activities with carbon, conservation, and community objectives.


Qualifications

  • Strong technical expertise in Forestry and Forest Management, with experience in sustainable forest planning, silviculture, and long-term resource stewardship.
  • Practical experience in Timber operations and Harvesting, including safe, efficient, and low-impact extraction methods.
  • Knowledge of Urban Forestry or community-based forestry approaches, with an ability to engage and collaborate with local stakeholders.
  • Experience working on nature-based or carbon-related projects, preferably in Africa or similar contexts.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to manage field teams, contractors, and multiple work sites with strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with GIS, forest inventory tools, and basic data analysis for monitoring and reporting purposes.
  • Commitment to safety, ethical practices, and community-inclusive approaches; capacity to work in rural field conditions.
  • Strong communication skills in English; additional local language skills are an advantage.
